Less than 30% of aluminum pods are recycled and all new pods contain 20% of non recycled aluminum. Behind, big conglomerate lies and ugly truths of a supply chain which uses massive amounts of energy, water resources and chemical products to produce this new aluminum, in what is a highly destructive process. Although Nespresso® will shout about how recyclable aluminum is, this in reality does not take place. As a percentage of pods that go to landfill - Nespresso®* themselves estimate that only 29% are being recycled - 71% is a ridiculously high number given that 14 billion Nespresso®* pods are sold per year. Traditional plastic and aluminum pods can take 150 years to break down and decompose. In your home compost, ours will break down quickly, or can be placed in your food waste bin. If worst comes to the worst and Woken pods do make their way into landfill our pods will still break down in these ambient environments.
